VOLCANOSCAPES
By
Susan Rogers-Aregger

Volcanoes have always created feelings of mystique, fear and beauty for me.  In this series of work, I have studied some of the volcanoes of Earth through stories, and laid down visually my concepts of these creators.

My collages are done with hand dyed papers that are laminated onto a canvas surface.  I use an exacto knife as one would a brush to "paint on and pull off" the papers.  This medium is challenging and exciting to me; the interaction of color, shape, value and texture stimulates me to explore.  I conduct collage workshops in Hawaii and at the Chautauqua Institute in New York.  My Clay creations are done using a variety of firing techniques, favorites being Raku and smoke firings.

I hope you will enjoy my creations as much as I enjoy bringing them to life.
