Collages By Susan Rogers -Aregger |
My collages are done with hand dyed papers that are laminated onto
a canvas surface. I use an exacto knife as one would a brush to "paint on and
pull off" the papers. This medium is challenging and exciting to me; the
interaction of color, shape, value and texture stimulates me to explore. I conduct
collage workshops in Hawaii and at the Chautauqua Institute in New York. My clay
creations are done using a variety of firing techniques, favorites being Raku and smoke
firings. I hope you will enjoy my creations as much as I enjoy bringing them to life. |
Inspiration
for these creations is found within the legends and stories that have been told through
the years by the people of the Hawaiian Islands. These masks are unique and one of a
kind, created with a variety of clays and firing techniques.
With others I use the kiln, which are ovens (electric, gas or wood) that are used to bake the clay as well as create the colorful glazes that are a glass -like substance baked onto the clay. The masks can be displayed in several ways: Hung on a wall (I include a hanger with each), displayed on a stand (plate stands work well), or mounted in a shadow box. |
